Initial Consultation

During your consultation, we will work with you to determine your eligibility for ketamine therapy. A thorough medical assessment will be conducted consisting of patient-provided information about your current and past medical and psychiatric history, current and past medications, and vital signs will be reviewed and discussed with you. A physician referral is not necessary to receive treatment at our practice; however, we will work with your existing health providers as closely as necessary for your health benefit. We will walk you through your individualized treatment plan and review discharge instructions, answer all questions that you have, and schedule you for your infusion dates.

Day of Infusion- Arrival

On the day of your infusion, you and your driver will arrive at Brandywine Therapeutics and be greeted by our receptionist who will ensure completion of necessary paper work. We will get you settled in one of our treatment rooms and ensure your comfort. You are welcome to bring your own blanket and music with headphones.

Infusion

A small IV will be started in your hand or arm, and you'll be placed on a monitor to track your heart rate, blood pressure and oxygen level. The ketamine infusion is started and you are welcomed to recline, relax and close your eyes. The medicine is given slowly over a period of time based on your individualized treatment plan. Throughout treatment, your vital signs will be intermittently and unobtrusively monitored. It is normal to have no noticeable effects within the first 15 - 20 minutes of treatment.

Around halfway through the infusion, some patients experience feelings described as euphoric, relaxation, heightened perceptions, interesting dreams or feeling disconnected. You do not lose consciousness during the infusion and have full command of your faculties. Less common, patients may experience include anxiety, sweating, nausea or a headache. Medications can be administered if these symptoms persist/or become uncomfortable.

Post Infusion

Once your treatment ends, your IV will be removed and we will assess how you are feeling. Some patients feel tired, others feel fine and ready to walk out. It is required that you have someone drive you home following treatment.

You can expect to spend a total of 60 -120 minutes in our office during a treatment. You may notice effects from the ketamine infusion soon, with typical effects noticed 24 to 48 hours post infusion. Results are dependent upon each patient, which is why we tailor treatment plans to our individual patients.
